Part of the Lunchtime Concert Series at Liverpool Universities, Aurora perform their latest programme: Music for Pieces of Wood

Described as ‘superb’ by the Financial Times and ‘extraordinary’ by Classical Source, the Aurora Percussion Duo produce adrenaline-fuelled concert performances which are visually spectacular and physically demanding, all presented with the artistry of dedicated chamber musicians.

Delia Stevens and Le Yu delve into a repertoire dominated by the marimba, and as ‘sound explorers of the natural world’ explore the musical application of wood and wooden instruments. Their sonic palette ranges from Ivan Trevino’s irresistibly groovy music for acoustic guitar (struck by wooden chopsticks), Seesaw to Keiko Abe’s epic for double marimbas “Conversations in the Forest” interspersed by nature-inspired improvisations on instruments made out of trees including paper, bird calls, wooden blocks, leaves and log drums.
